As a part of our Humans of Lodha series we spoke with Deepa Shetty, resident of Amara by Lodha. As a Yoga instructor, she finds the green spaces at Lodha Amara the most ideal for her practice. The most important thing for us when we were looking for a new home were the amenities that came with it, as I have a seven year old child and I myself am a yoga instructor. Lodha Amara really met that expectation for us.
As a yoga instructor, open green spaces mean a lot to me. My favourite spot is the forest area around the pond. Not only is it beautiful and serene, I’ve found it to be a really good spot to practice my pranayama and record yoga videos. My son also loves it there - we’ve recorded a video of him chanting at that charming spot. So many of our friends and family who saw the video ask me where this was, I always jokingly tell them London! The view from my home is delightful as well, I can witness the sunrise and sunset daily. It's become a nice cosy spot to unwind and drink tea.
A major advantage for me as a yoga instructor was the size of the society, both in terms of finding students and space. Right now due to COVID, I’ve had to move my classes online, but I am very comfortable teaching from my home. Before COVID I was able to take advantage of the clubhouse facilities and conduct classes there.
When things had let up a little bit, I started taking classes outside and thanks to the gardens and the open spaces we had more than enough room for us to do this safely. A memory that stands out for me is when I had the opportunity to conduct a Surya Namaskar workshop in front of the clubhouse. After we managed to get all the necessary permission, I must say it was a much needed escape for everyone!
We came here from Lower Parel, where we stayed in a building with no amenities. Here there are so many things - the jogging track, the auditorium, the clubhouse. It has enhanced our lives. People who see our social media posts keep asking us where we live to have such beautiful photos, these interactions make us feel better about where we live.
