Patricia Urquiola, voted as the best interior designer in Europe in 2016, has designed the interiors of the 50,000 square foot clubhouse. She shares with us her experience in designing the grand clubhouse at Lodha Park.
Some excerpts from our conversation with Patricia Urquiola about the development.
We started working with the Lodha Group in 2015 for the Lincoln Square project in London for which we have designed the residents’ amenities. I’m happy that the Lodha Group decided to work with us for Lodha Park as well, a very important development that will change the idea of living in Mumbai.
Lodha Park rises up as a green area in the heart of Mumbai. It represents a place where people can do different activities, meet a lot of people, and create connections in this new cosmopolitan society.
I don’t have a design philosophy but I am always looking for ways to connect my work with emotional memory; I like to connect people to their spaces. I like to create empathy. I try to understand and respect the clients that I work with, at the same time I try to evolve together with them. I continuously research, observe society around me to understand where contemporaneity is going and then I try to interpret it. In Lodha Park development, we want to transmit the new life of Mumbai and the intention of Lodha to improve the life of the people who live there.
The clubhouse extends on an area of 50000 sq.ft.. It is subdivided into different areas, each with its own personality but connected by the same language of classic and modern elements interpreted with patterns, mix of elements and textures.
Every time I begin a new project I start with a white page, so that I’m ready to face all the challenges that may come up during the path. In this case, the biggest challenge was to interpret the mix of materials and colors that are part of India’s culture, with a new unexpected language.
The interconnection and diversity of the spaces that interact beautifully in an elegant ambient. Another important aspect that I like, is its connection between the exterior and the interior of the building. We used the particular architecture, made by WOHA Architects to bring inside the rooms/area natural light and the view of Lodha Park.
Yes, it is completely influenced. Our intent is to leave the people who live there and use all the amenities a sense of place and a connection to the city in a new way through the lights, the colors, the material and the textures we designed exclusively for each space, giving a unique character to the clubhouse.
